How are All-Star players selected?

Creating the ballot - A ballot is created for each division: Seniors, Juniors, Little League, and Senior Minor. The ballot lists players by team.  Then, all players who are ineligible due to age ( i.e., 13 and 14 year olds from the Senior division, 9 and 10 from Little League division and 8 year olds from Senior Minor) are removed from their division’s ballot and placed on the ballot for their age group.

Voting - At the May Meeting, each coach is given an envelope with one ballot for each of his/her players and then one for him/herself.   Note, that those players who were too young to be on the ballot, still voted. Each player selects 9 players from their division to be on the All-Star team. The coach must also select 9 players from the other teams. The manager’s ballot has his team’s list crossed out.

Tallying up the ballots – The coaches have two weeks to get the ballots back to the VP of Baseball. The VP of Baseball will count the votes each player gets from the other players. Those top 9 players get 1 vote. A player also gets 1 vote for each manager vote. The 9 players who have the most votes are on the All-Star team.

How are the All-Star managers selected?

All coaches and managers are asked to contact the VP of Baseball if they are interested in managing the All-Star team. Only managers and coaches during the spring season are eligible. Coaches/Managers can ask for a team in their current division or a younger i.e., a Little League coach can coach a Senior Minor All Star team, but not visa versa.

Around June 1st, the VP of Baseball holds a meeting with all the coaches and managers interested. Each coach in a division is given a ballot with all coaches or managers interested in leading the All-Star team.   Each manager/coach will select one person. The person with the most votes has the All-Star team. If there is a tie, the VP of Baseball will select the All-Star manager.

How can I be a coach?

If you are interested in being a manager or coach,  please sign up at regisration. If you can not attend, contact Ed at erp6904@hotmail.com for baseball or Joe at joe_ny38@yahoo.com for softball.  In February, after registration, the number of teams are determined. If you had a team the prior spring and you are not moving up, you will keep your team. The Board selects the managers. The manager selects two coaches. The criteria to selecting the manager will be: years coaching in the league, ability to coach, documented praises or complaints from others.

What do I do with the raffle tickets?

You were given raffle tickets at registration. These tickets are for you to sell and keep the money. This helps to offset the cost of the program.  The drawing takes place at Community Day, held by the Recreation Department during the summer.  You must either mail in the stubs to BAC or put them in the box at Community Day to enter.

Can my son, who is 9,  play up?

The Major division is typically for children ages 9 – 12 (by April 30). Often we must recruit a few players from the younger division to fill a team. If so, we will draft the entire Minor division. You will be notified if your child is to participate in the draft.  If a Major coach selects your child, you will have the option to play in either division.

Can my son umpire, he is 14?

Yes. Our umpiring program has undergone an overhaul with an emphasis on instructions and evaluation throughout the season. Teenagers, age 13-14, will umpire Minor games. Teenagers, age 15-16, will umpire Major games. Teenagers, 17+, and adults will umpire Babe Ruth and older, which may require Patch certification. If you would like to be considered for the umpiring program, please register by clicking on the “Umpire Login” button on the bottom, right of the homepage. There will be a selection process. To get more information, contact Scott Alden, our Umpire-in-Chief, at salden2462@aol.com.
